Ever since 1992, the Energy Star logo has outlined the best in energy efficiency across a gamut of products including electronics, appliances, home heating and cooling equipment and more.
Established by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency, Energy Star-qualified systems went beyond minimum federal standards for energy efficiency. As a result, products with the Energy Star logo saved homeowners money by reducing energy consumption, especially when it comes to heating and air conditioning costs.
The program has now evolved. With its new "Most Efficient" label, homeowners can now identify the best of the best in terms of efficiency. Learn the criteria and benefits of using products rated "Most Efficient."
About the program
The new program currently labels a select number of appliance categories, including heating and cooling systems, clothes washers, refrigerators and televisions. It aims to help consumers identify the most-efficient appliances and inspire manufacturers to create even more efficient appliances in order to qualify for the program.
