There is nothing more important than performing maintenance on your HVAC system if you would like to see it run at maximum performance. While there are a lot of parts to maintain, it is easy to forget about the importance of the heat pump cooling system.
Here are some tips to help keep your heat pump cooling system operating at its best.
- Improve the performance of your heat pump cooling system by keeping the area around the outdoor condensing unit clear of bushes, weeds and grass clippings or other yard debris.
- Make sure that your filters are checked monthly during months of heavy use and change or clean the filter when it begins to look dirty.
- Examine the coils to see if they need to be cleaned. Dirty coils and filters will lower the amount of air that flows through your system which will in turn decrease its performance. In the long run, this could also damage the compressor on your system.
As long as you are diligent about cleaning dust and dirt from all the components, you will not have nearly as many problems, even during the hottest months of the year.
During a yearly inspection, you can also have a technician maintain your heat pump. In doing so, you can expect him or her to:
- Inspect the belts for wear and tear
- Lubricate all motors
- Verify that the refrigerant charge is correct and check for leaks
- Inspect ducts for blockage
- Verify that the thermostat is operating properly
