All Energy Star programmable thermostats have settings for four or more program change periods per day. They also keep the temperature setting at an accuracy of within plus or minus 2 degrees. Some other options available on models are listed below:
- Change filter reminder -- A light indicating it is time to change the HVAC filter.
- Remote Programming -- This feature can let you change or set programming by voice, phone or through the internet.
- Digital and Back-Lit Displays -- This allows the user easy push-button programming and clear, readable displays at any time of day.
- Hybrid Programming -- This combines the ease of using manual slides and knobs with digital features to program the thermostat.
- Hold Features -- This overrides the programming while the home is unoccupied for extended periods. During weekends and vacations the programming cycle is suspended.
- Occupancy Thermostats -- With the push of a button, someone entering the home early can suspend the programming and the thermostat will start bringing the temperature to the normal occupied level.
These and other options make programmable thermostats more than just energy savers. Their convenience ties in to all home activities and allows complete control for the owner.
