The school break is a time of high energy consumption for most families. Now that fall has arrived and the kids are in class again, you can make up for those big summer energy bills by taking these effective steps that promote back-to-school energy savings:
- Program the thermostat - If you don't already own and use one, have a programmable thermostat installed and program it for temperature adjustments that mesh with your family's daily and weekly schedule. - Schedule a professional energy audit - The various tests and checks performed during an energy audit can identify issues that impact your family's comfort and your energy consumption during the cold winter months. Your HVAC technician may find that you should add extra R-value to the attic insulation or that you need to seal and weatherize to reduce air leaks.
